Greatest Surprise

It was May 23, 2003 when I was first diagnosed with kidney failure. I was hospitalized for a simple nosebleed and one thing led to another until my doctor told me the bad news. It’s not that bad actually, for I learned early in life to accept the unexpected things that come on my way. Although I’ll assure you that it took me by surprise and the fact that I am suffering from a chronic illness has taken a bit longer to sink in.

After being discharged from the hospital, it seems that nothing was amiss, leading the normal life I once led and slowly settling myself back into normalcy. Until I started feeling the symptoms of kidney failure… I was having a difficult time controlling my blood pressure, despite the medications, and I can’t sleep lying flat on my back because it feels like lying in a bathtub under gallons of water. In other words, I felt like drowning whenever I lie down.

This continued for four more months until the time came when dialysis treatment was not just a choice anymore but already a necessity. My first ever treatment was an eye opener for me, which I would describe to you in greater detail on my future posts.

It’s been almost six years now since I started the fight with kidney failure, and it’s still on and would remain standing until God knows when. Throughout my journey on this road, I have experienced a lot and learned a lot. And as I look back, there’s one truth I have proven over and over again… LIFE is what we MAKE of it.

Enjoy Life!
